Piñon hold a crucial role in the high desert community both with human and more-than-humans, and as such, the loving memorialization of the loss the species as well as the hope of possibility in learning new ways to support germination and propagation was necessary to explore. The community portion of this project involves the research and trialing of propagation techniques and soil composition, and the loving care of baby Piñon seedlings between members of our collective. We built a mobile greenhouse to create a physical space around which people could coalesce together, witness the piñon seedlings in their growth journey, and share stories of their lives around these trees. The greenhouse is a space that we can take with us throughout the future of this project to nurture more seedlings and gather more folks for generative experiences of making and mourning.
